ASCRS Foundation Helps with Disaster Relief Following Japan Earthquake and Tsunami

In 2011, the ASCRS Foundation partnered with the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the Japanese Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery to host a Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief fundraiser during the ASCRS Annual Symposium in San Diego.

"The earthquake and tsunami have wreaked extraordinary destruction, suffering and loss of life. As an expression of support for the Japanese people and our fellow ophthalmologists, we have launched this relief effort," said Richard L. Lindstrom, M.D., and ASCRS Foundation Chairman.

The ASCRS Foundation collected $40,000 in donations to aid the earthquake and tsunami victims. The funds were then given to the Japanese Society to distribute to appropriate health-related relief efforts.
